D. Winona Johnson Youth Scholarship

The D. Winona Johnson Youth Scholarship is a special award given each year to youth in the Transfiguration community who are graduating high school. D. Winona Johnson was a beloved member of Transfiguration Parish who loved children and was committed to supporting youth education and development. In her honor her family established a trust to provide scholarships to support the youth of Transfiguration on a continuing basis.

The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding youth in our parish and to assist them with the start-up costs associated with the first year of attendance in post-secondary education, including college, community college, vocational training programs, or other educational opportunities. An award can be held in escrow for graduating seniors who defer their post-secondary education for military service or other opportunities.

In the summer of 2020 we anticipate awarding multiple scholarships, given the extraordinary challenges of the current school year. Graduating seniors have been invited individually to submit an application - including two essays and high school transcript - no later than July 15, 2020.

We are grateful for this opportunity to support our young people. If you have any questions or want additional information, please contact the church office at 301-384-6264 or Thank you and God bless you.
