D. Winona Johnson Youth Scholarship Award

The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration is pleased to invite Transfiguration high school seniors to apply for the D. Winona Johnson Youth Scholarship Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding youth of the parish family who will be graduating high school in the coming year.

The five hundred dollar ($500) award is intended to help defray the startup costs associated with the first year of attendance in post-secondary education. The recipient may choose to use the award towards costs for attending college, vocational training programs, or any other costs approved by the church.


All candidates will be notified prior to June 30, 2019 which is the day when the Scholarship will be presented at the 10:15 a.m. Service. The parish encourages all seniors to apply and congratulates you on your upcoming graduation from high school.

D. Winona Johnson Youth Scholarship Award Application - Applications must be received by June 24, 2019    

D. Winona Johnson was a beloved parishioner of Transfiguration who adored children. She had a strong commitment to youth and youth education. In her honor her family donated money to a trust to be used as a scholarship to recognize and support the youth of Transfiguration.

The purpose of this award is to establish an annual award to be given to an outstanding youth of the parish for use towards continuing education after high school, including: college, university or vocational school classes.

The D. Winona Johnson Scholarship Fund will award $500 to outstanding youth of the parish.

Youths must be seniors in high school and a member of the Transfiguration parish. Awardees must successfully complete their senior year of high school by August of application year. Active participation in and positive contribution to church activities, (e.g., choir, acolyte, youth groups, Sunday school, vacation bible school, Clothes Closet, etc.) will factor strongly in application evaluation. In addition community related activities such as scouting, and volunteering with charitable organizations will be considered.

Award Stipulations
The award money is to be used for costs associated with continuing education after successful graduation from high school and may include, but is not limited to: tuition, transportation, books, lodging, etc. Proof of enrollment in a course of study must be shown. An award can be held in escrow by the parish for up to four years in order to provide for military service.
